INTRODUCTION

What is up guys, back at it again with another new review! Now I’ll be reviewing the Hyper X Alpha Gaming Headphones. Hyper X is best known throughout the online gaming community and I was personally introduced through a friend who heavily plays FPS games especially the popular Call of Duty Online series. He was also the same person that introduced me to my first Hyper X gaming headphones, the “Hyper X Cloud II” which are a good pair of headphones. These Hyper X Alpha headphones are selling at $100 dollars on Amazon, and it excels compared to its other competitors in its tier for its build, comfort, and sound quality for the price.

The Hyper X Alpha is also compatible with the following:

  • PC
  • Mac
  • Playstation 4
  • Playstation 4 Pro
  • XBOX One
  • XBOX One S
  • Nintendo Swtich
  • Mobile
  • VR

But without further ado, let’s get on with the review!

BUILD/ DESIGN

So the build quality is quite sturdy, with a durable sleek red aluminum frame construction for stability and smooth matte black finish on the earcups. The headband also has a size adjustable design with a 30-degree rotation for your head shape needs. It’s lightweight (298g) and flexible featuring a circumaural, closed back design. On the top of the band has the Hyper X logo stamped on a stitched leatherette. Also up top, there a little air portholes which help with more openness in the sound when you’re listening to music or gaming.

COMFORT

I  think the materials on the Alphas earcups are very comfortable. Plus the memory foam designed with these headphones just have that softer premium feel to it. I also noticed the cushions are a lot different than the Hyper X Cloud II cushions.  However, After a long period of time listening to my music library, surfing the web, and gaming, I don’t feel much clamping pressure at all with these headphones. Over time it can get pretty warm over my ears.

SOUND

There are 50mm dual chamber dynamic drivers (neodymium magnets) that comes equipped with the headphones. Its frequency range is from 13 to 27,000 Hz with a impedance 65W ohms and a 98-decibel output.

According to Hyper X, they are the first gaming headset to establish a dual chamber system that separates the bass frequencies from the mids and highs. While isolating and tuning the bass frequencies from the other frequencies resulting in less overall distortion. The bass sounds very clean, strong without all that muddiness and definitely doesn’t overpower the mids and highs like other traditional single chamber headphones. When I plug the Alphas into the Playstation 4 controller, the volume isn’t as loud as on PC or even my smartphone. I don’t think the PS4 controller is not strong enough to drive the headphones but it still sounds great though.

As a basshead myself, I currently use an amp by JDS Labs (The Element) to power these headphones and even when testing this out by turning up the volume on the amp, like I have said before, the bass really does sound clean!

I’ll admit, the sound quality for these is what impressed me for its price point. (No Joke)

CONCLUSION

Overall, In all honesty, I think the Hyper X Alpha are a fantastic pair of headphones! After quite some time listening to the Alphas, I think these are the best pair of gaming headphones that is $100 on amazon compared to others on the market so far. If you had to make a decision upgrading from the Cloud II to the Alpha, I’d go with the Hyper X Alpha. It’ll be worth the upgrade!

Not to mention it includes a two-year warranty.
